What – posting two recipes within a week? What am I thinking?
What I’m thinking is this. You’ll only get a chance to make this smoothie if I post it quick-smart – there were apricots at the Otago Farmers Market last weekend, but I assume they’ll be taking a bit of a market holiday shortly. If there are no apricots, this is also good with peaches – but they’re not going to be around much longer either (I know, all of us who are addicted to Mango Chia Custard – which is reliant on having at least one of these ingredients – are quietly freaking out).

Farmers Market Smoothie – March
1.5 cups water or nut milk
2 ripe pears, cores removed
3 apricots (or peaches), stones removed
1 banana
1 heaped tablespoon pumpkin seeds
1 heaped tablespoon almond or cashew butter
1/3 cup oats (or gluten-free substitute such as buckwheat flakes), soaked overnight and drained if possible
Dashes of cinnamon and vanilla
Maple syrup or honey (optional – to taste)
Blend all ingredients until smooth. Depending on the ripeness of the pears, this may take some time if using a regular (i.e., not high-speed) blender. Best consumed immediately after it is made. Enjoy!
